Lifestyle Photoshoot: The Afterdark Doula

A lifestyle & family portrait shoot for the lovely Laura of The Afterdark Doula. Here are a few words from Laura about how The Afterdark Doula came to be….

"Herbal medicine has always been my dream, my tea cupboard is a testament to that. However, It wasn’t until I was at a cross cross roads moment in my early twenties that I realised that. I ran away to Bali, studied yoga, found meditation and mantras and began my internship of Ayurveda and herbal medicines.

I completely stripped away everything I once was and manifested my more humble life. . I was then fortunate enough that my studies took me to Portugal, where I spent many months working on a farm, learning about traditions of plants, flower tops, roots and leaves. I learnt from my shaman teacher Daisy who educated me on the relationship between herbal medicines and women.

I was hungry to know about fertility, pregnancy, 4th trimester and all things depression / anxiety related.... little did I know only a few short months later I would be pregnant with my darling boy Owen. So just like that with a brain full of knowledge a suitcase full of herbs, my calling was to come home to Torquay. When I fell pregnant I began #mothersmylk. I was victim to on going cycles of antibiotics, infections, antibiotics to infections.

I became fed up with always feeling like crap. That’s when I thought. why not put my ongoing knowledge and passion into good use. Coast Apothecary is the beginning of something special, it’s my time to be your nurse with mother nature’s medicine.”
