5 Common Mistakes to Avoid in Your Personal Brand Photoshoot
I’ve been a personal brand photographer for 4 years and have photographed hundreds of women. I’ve gained invaluable insights into what makes a brand photoshoot successful vs what can potentially ruin it.
Here are the top 5 mistakes I see most often.
1. You’re trying to emulate another brand:
It’s all good to feel inspired and expanded by another brand, but focus on what makes YOUR brand unique. What sets you apart from others in your industry? Have you taken the time to identify your brand identity and do you have a clear brand vision? The goal is to stand out - not blend in!
2. You’re not creating with the big picture in mind:
Think beyond what you want right now or what you’re currently doing. Think of your brand’s future. Where is your business headed? Where are you expanding or evolving? Moving forward, who do you really want to serve?
3. You haven’t given yourself enough time to plan + prep:
I recommend booking your photoshoot at least a month in advance. Why? Because last-minute// rush energy isn’t a vibe and why add unnecessary stress? I take pride in my process which involves a consultation to align on vision and details, an in-depth brand questionnaire, a mood board, a photoshoot guide, and suggestions on location, wardrobe and hair and makeup artists. All that takes time but preparation is key to making sure you get the outcome you’re looking for. 🗓️
4. Hiring someone who doesn’t specialise in personal branding photography:
There are so many talented photographers to choose from, and while many photograph across industries (wedding, families, portraits, product, fashion, commercial, etc) I recommend finding a photographer that focuses on brand photography and understands how to communicate your brand’s story + values. 📸🎞️
5. Not using your photos to their full potential:
Once you get your final gallery of images (and assuming you LOVE them) you should be using them everywhere. Update your website, use them in your newsletters and social platforms, add them to your masterclass presentation or marketing material, and for PR opportunities. The sky’s the limit babe.💻
