Postcard from Paris, France
Arrived in: Paris via two train rides from London
My first impression is: Paris is a walker and biker friendly city with more cafes than I've ever seen. We're staying in an AirBNB close to the Seine and I love walking along the river, listening to people play music and watching as everyone soaks up the sun and share food and wine with friends.
I'm most excited about: visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Lourve, having a picnic dinner with a bottle of wine on the Seine, watching the sunset from Sacré Coeur, and wandering the gardens of Luxembourg and Tuileries.
I'm surprised that: I found a FREE bathroom in the city and it self-washes! Once you're finished and close the door, it locks for a quick cleaning so it's ready for the next person. Genius. Also, it's also refreshing to find a bathroom that you don't have to pay a Euro to use.
I learned:
- Construction of Notre Dame took over 200 years.
- The architect of the Arc De Triumph was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus and was built at the request of Napoleon.
- France was the first country in the world to ban supermarkets from throwing away or destroying unsold food! Since 2016, shops must donate waste to food banks or charities.
The best thing is that:
- I'm joined in France by my best friend Kate! We'll be spending 2 weeks traveling around France, beginning here in Paris and ending up in the south in Aix-en-Provence. Follow along via instagram- @lcarvitto
